I don't understand how people can enjoy traveling to their hometown in Vietnam and experiencing freedom in America. My parents won't allow me to move out or be independent. I have very strict parents who have never let me go outside. I'm already 23 years old, yet I'm not allowed to go anywhere without their permission. They always ask about the identity of the people I want to meet and request to see their photos. If the photos look too fashionable or stylish, they assume those individuals are not good people. Will I ever have the opportunity to go outside and enjoy life like everyone else? What are your thoughts?
Vietnam is in my bucket list for a long time. This big country cannot be explode in 7 days so I have decided that I will travel and in between I have to work. 1. If I take a tourist sim card with 5G is it enough to connect my laptop and work ? Mostly IT work in Google Chrome and some software. No video upload etc. 2. Which sim card to take for this 30 day plan ? 3. I see lot of buses operate in cities. Are these AC buses, operate on time ? (Or like Indian buses. No schedule). 4. For travel between cities how early I need to book train/bus ticket ? Which website can I use to book ? 5. Any concern on snatching/pickpocketing? 6. My plan is saigon - DMZ - da nang/hoi an / hue - Hanoi - ninh bin - cat ba island. Is it ok or shall I add something? Exit from Hanoi airport. Max I can spend 3 to 4 weeks. In between I have to work full days :( 7. I don't speak vietnemese at all. Will there be issue with ordering food with street food vendor? Thanks.
Da Nang has been showing me so many new things. Around ~9-9:15pm on Cầu Rồng, there was a bunch of motorbikes speeding (like i have never seen vehicles go this fast in Vietnam's big cities) down the bridge with guys on the back whipping belts out. Eventually, one guy is on the ground with his bike knocked down, getting beaten with belts. The perps take off, leaving the guy curled up in fetal position. This all happened in the middle of moving traffic.
I guess....WTF??? I'm assuming this is a one-off but seems very bold to be doing it so publicly.

Question in title. I have had them served as a starter a couple of times and they’re amazing!!! The people I am living with (using their broken English which is far superior than my non existent Vietnamese) describe them as baby fish. Thank you in advance [link] [comments] |
So, how do you view the Russo-Ukrainian war? Although Russia is a close ally to Vietnam, when the war broke out, many people have divided views: pro-Russia, pro-Ukraine, and neutral. And it seems the government doesn't even care if you support Russia or not, as they are neutral, and they seem to let the people think however they want. Elder people tend to be pro-Russia, and some journalists that work for the state-owned media, such as Anh Ngoc Truong, are pro-Ukraine. I'm neutral, so how about you?
Is it business as normal or do a lot of places close during this period?
can anyone recommend a place for a nice head massage or body massage? I went to on the recommended ones today and left a bit disappointed
We're travelling to Vietnam in Late Feb - Early March for 2 weeks.
My father is born and raised in HCMC - this is where we'll be flying in to and spending a few days to explore and see family etc.
Although my father was born in Vietnam, he has never explored the country. He left in his early 20s and had only been back to HCMC a few times to visit family.
It would be a great chance to explore all the best parts of his country but I am having some trouble coming up with an itinerary.
Right now, my very vague idea of our itinerary is:
HCMC for ~3 days, ?????, Halong Bay Cruise for 2 Days, Hanoi for ~3 Days (fly out form here)
Most information I've found is useful for couples/solo travellers/young families which wouldn't be suitable for my parents.
Due to their age, I'd like to avoid any big hikes, the famous Ha Giang Loop, long bus/train rides (e.g. Sapa).
Any suggestions with what we should see and do?
Thanks!
Chao Anh/Chi,
My friend went hiking in a forest area 1-2 hours away from Saigon during the weekend, and discovered a tick bite (with the tick still attached).
She removed it and the wound bled for about an hour.
Now she's worried about catching Lyme disease or meningitis.
She knows people in the Vn medical/hospital sector, but so far no one has been able to advise her properly on treatment or diagnosis.
Does anyone here have any experience with tick bites, or blood tests / treatments available in Vn / Saigon?
Thanks for your help...
Really embarrassed to talk about this. I’m not looking for sympathy. I just wanted to warn other travellers about this.
I’m a foreigner from London. Have been using a dating app here. I noticed there are some girls on the app who are very eager to meet right away and go for a drink. Stupidly, I agreed to go with one this evening.
She told me to meet her around the corner from Sniff club. Met her, looked nothing like her photos (which hardly showed her face anyway). She led us to this club.
She didn’t even speak English and we communicated via google translate…
She said she wanted to drink champagne 🤦🏼♂️ so I bought a bottle. Then she asked if she can do some balloons, and kept asking for more and more. At one point she suggested I tip the bar staff.
She was super flirty and touching me all over. Until I said no to more balloons she acted like a grumpy child.
I noticed some girls who were waiting on the corner, who later on were in the same club with some foreigner men.
I am quite sure these girls are employed by the club to get men to come in and spend money. My total bill was 5 million…
It’s a sad feeling to be taken advantage of like this. Everyone I’ve met so far has been so kind and generous to me.
So yea, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
I’m travelling to Vietnam this August with my family, 2 adults and 2 kids (5 and 8 years old) and we would like to do the Hi Giang loop in three days.
I know everyone recommend doing it by bike buy for obvious reasons it’s not possible in our case.
Is there a way to do it by car? I have seen some tours that offers car+all included for around 100$ per person per day but it feels very overpriced for the usual cost of things in Vietnam. I’d prefer to find a driver and plan everything else (discuss the route, meals and accommodations) by ourselves.
Is that possible? Would you recommend it?
Thanks!
Just launched a community for travellers so that experienced traveler can help new travellers and will plan some monetization for contributer as a traveller
https://nas.io/travel-community
Why so ? TripAdvisor have so many resources I agree ? But it doesnot pay even a penny to its contributer , though travellers are very open-minded to continue support but they still deserve some rewards
I usually have a friend I watch the F1 Grand Prixs with, but he left the country for the Summer and was wondering if there are any bars that show the race that anyone could recommend. TIA!
Hello! I was thinking of travelling to Sapa as soon as I arrive in Hanoi. I have two queries related to this. 1. Should I exchange currency at the Airport itself or should I wait till I get to Sapa? Are there any good options for exchanging currency in Sapa? 2. How do I get to Sapa from the Airport? Are there regular buses going to Sapa from or near the Airport? How much would be the cost?
What’s the best food in Hanoi? Please only recommend places you’ve personally been to somewhat recently and like. I’m delighted to hear everyone’s suggestions.
I just got back and feel like some of my favorite places have gone downhill
Hi ! I’m coming from india for a tour in Hanoi . Can I exchange my currency over there? I heard the exchange rates are low there compared to here .
